Matthew 16:24 (NASB)Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
Jesus said in order to follow Him we must:
First:
Be determined in our purpose, resolve and desire to follow Him
Second:
Lose sight of ourselves and one’s own self-interests
Third:
Actively take off or away from our old natural fleshly desires and pick up our new spiritual life
Fourth:
Practice daily self-denial by considering ourselves dead to our old life through the atonement of Christ on the cross
Fifth:
Obey and imitate Jesus as an everyday lifestyle
Following Jesus requires us to deny our desires such as;
- sexual immorality
- impurity
- hatred
- fighting
- jealousy
- fits of rage
- selfish ambition
- envy
- drunkenness
- lying
- stealing
- pride
I’ve named a few, there are plenty more, the question is what’s dying on your cross today?
Peace,
Ty
